I feel that this book was a very well written account of Anton Lavey's life. As you read it, you feel (or at least I feel) that I am sitting in the same room with him and having a conversation. I have been reading it off and on spending fairly long chunks of time in each session because once I'm reading a book I enjoy, I become very engrossed in it. If only he were alive today... :)

First, it's hypocritical to label Christians as closed-minded simpletons for giving opinions from their own perspectives. How many of the reviewers with those opinions have educated themselves about Christianity with complete objectivity.(or any other religion for that matter). These Christians displayed some degree of open-mindedness simply by reading the book. Understanding Christianity requires a conscious effort to educate yourself by analyzing writings from both sides. I've done that and now I've read the biographies of LaVey and Aleistar Crowley. In my opinion, Christianity makes a lot more sense when you compare it with the delusional beliefs of LaVey. Four foot caterpillars? Transformations into wolves? You believe that? If not, then you have to question his entire thought process.
Both men were influenced by humanist philosophies, however, humanist philosophy consists of a wide range of conflicting beliefs,as does Christianity. Thomas Aquinas was a self described humanist for example. Also, LaVey was a self-described satanist, contrary to what one of the prior reviewers said. Hell, he claimed that Satan appeared to him in physical form.
Satanism can be described as a form of humanism. Specifically, "secular humanism". The philosophy in a sentence is "Do what thou wilt". Crowley and LaVey were of the opinion that it's fine to kill your enemies, engage in sexual activity with whomever you please (including children). L Ron Hubbard derived his views from Crowley and secular humanists as well. He was an evil person and most notably a sexual deviant. Anyway, these are truly destructive beliefs.
Anyway, I'm done. I could write 20 pages but many of these reviewers need to educate themselves before attacking others' beliefs. An uninformed opinion is a worthless opinion.
The book was interesting only in that it decribes the life of an eccentric man. It does'nt argue the credibility of Satanism. A biography shouldn't enter that realm. This book was fairly , but not completely, objective.

i think this was a very good bio into the life of Mr.LaVey. After reading most of his books, this gives a better understanding of who he was and how he came to be the founder of the Church of Satan.

Interesting read to say the least. The man portrayed in the book had one of the most interesting lives ever. However, his entire childhood and most of his early adult life until the creation of the Satanic Church was complete fiction. It is ironic though that the man who was the representative of the Father of lies just happened to be an enormous liar.

I notice lots of individuals enjoy pointing the Finger On this Devil of a Gentleman on the truthfulness of his life.Lets not forget that one can also say the same about the Life Of Aleister Crowley. For one who talked so much of secret cheifs,HGA,The crimson drips of saints blood on Babalons chalice and union with Ain etc He love to beat on his Scarlet women, lived from his followers purse once his inheritence ran dry,and died in poverty a Herione addict. The late Mr.Lavey has done lots in Both mundane and magical views of approach for one who doesnt like the RHP blah blah of Other Occultnik Viewpoints. HAIL SATAN!
